Native Shetland Seaweed Lamb (PDO)

We are delighted to offer native Shetland Seaweed Eating Lamb PDO, a unique, distinctly flavoured Scottish meat. Shetland Seaweed lamb is the most celebrated version of native Shetland lamb.

Shetland Seaweed Lamb has access to graze the shore as well as in-bye pasture and in the remoter locations heather hill as well. The flock are hefted to graze the shore as well as the adjoining grazings. The sheep are free roam their territory grazing in tune with the weather, tides and the seasonal flora.

We source our native Shetland lambs from crofters Tommy and Mary Isbister. Since 1976, Tommy and Mary have worked on the land of their delightful croft at Tronda, Scalloway Islands on Shetland, maintaining native Shetland breeds of animals, poultry and crops. Their traditional croft also has a restored watermill and herb rich pasture. Their lambs come from pure bred Shetland flocks raised on the isles. They are processed and packed by the local cooperative, Shetland Livestock Marketing Group in Shetland.

Protected Designation of Origin (PDO)

In recognition of the different characteristics of the meat, the distinctive red and yellow PDO symbol has been awarded to Shetland Lamb that is less than 12 months old and produced as well as slaughtered in Shetland. Other British products so honoured are Cornish Clotted Cream and Stilton Blue Cheese. Look out for the logo on the front of packaging. The EU Geographical Indication symbol assures customers of the genuineness of the product’s origin.
